Introducing IP Raccoon: IP Risk Scoring Beyond Ad Clicks

Product launch

Quick answer: Opticks is launching IP Raccoon, a new IP risk-scoring API built by the same team, for use cases outside paid media – account takeover, credential stuffing, signup fraud, affiliate fraud, and infrastructure abuse. It’s a separate product at ipraccoon.com, with 1,000 free API lookups and no credit card required to start.

Why we built something new instead of adding it to Opticks

Opticks exists to do one job well: stop invalid traffic and fraud on paid ad campaigns. That focus is deliberate – marketers and media buyers need a tool that speaks their language (channels, campaigns, CPC, invalid traffic %), not a general-purpose security product with an advertising module bolted on.

But the underlying signal Opticks is built on – IP reputation, behavioral risk, bot classification – is useful for a lot of problems that have nothing to do with ad spend. Security and engineering teams have been asking us for years whether they could use “the Opticks logic” for things like login risk scoring, signup abuse, or filtering bad IPs at the CDN/WAF edge.

Rather than turn Opticks into two products at once, we built that as its own thing: IP Raccoon.

What IP Raccoon actually does

IP Raccoon is an IP risk-scoring API – not only a geolocation lookup tool. It answers a different question than “where is this IP,” namely: how risky is this IP right now, based on reputation, known-bot classification, anonymizer/proxy detection, and behavioral signals. Unlike a static geolocation lookup, the underlying dataset is continuously updated as new fraud IPs are identified.

It ships in two forms:

  • A real-time API for scoring an IP on the spot (signup, login, checkout, bid request).
  • Four downloadable intelligence datasets – Detected Bots, Anonymizers, Reputation, and Known Bots — for teams who want to load risk data directly into their own infrastructure (CDN rules, SIEM, WAF) instead of calling an API per request.
1,000free API lookups, no card required $0.0015 → $0.0005per credit, scales with volume 4downloadable intelligence datasets

Credits don’t expire, and there’s a live demo widget on the pricing page if you want to test a lookup before creating an account.

Who it’s for

IP Raccoon isn’t aimed at marketers – it’s aimed at the teams sitting next to them: security engineers, sysadmins, compliance, anti-fraud and product teams dealing with IP-driven abuse outside the ad stack. Some of the problems it’s built around:

  • Account takeover & credential stuffing: scoring login attempts by IP risk before a breach turns into a support ticket.
  • Signup fraud & free-trial abuse: catching disposable-proxy signups before they hit your funnel metrics.
  • Affiliate fraud: the same “is this real traffic” question Opticks answers for ads, applied to affiliate networks.
  • Infrastructure & edge rules: feeding known-bad-IP data straight into CDN/WAF configuration.
  • AI crawler traffic: telling apart human readers, search crawlers, and the growing wave of AI agents hitting your site.

If any of that sounds like a problem your security or growth team has separately from your paid media fraud problem, that’s exactly the gap IP Raccoon is meant to close. See the full list of supported use cases.

How it relates to Opticks

Same detection DNA, different job. If you’re already using Opticks to protect your ad spend, IP Raccoon is worth a look if your company also deals with account security, signup abuse, or infrastructure-level bot traffic – problems Opticks isn’t built to solve, but that the same underlying risk-scoring approach applies to well.

They’re separate products, separate pricing, separate dashboards, but built by the same team that’s been fighting invalid traffic for years. Our own Ad Fraud Report 2025 is the same research base both products draw on.

FAQ

What is IP Raccoon?

An IP risk-scoring API and dataset provider, built by the Opticks team, for detecting bots, proxies, and fraudulent IPs outside the ad-fraud use case – things like login risk, signup abuse, and infrastructure-level filtering.

Is IP Raccoon a replacement for Opticks?

No. Opticks stays focused on ad fraud and invalid traffic in paid campaigns. IP Raccoon is a separate product for IP risk problems outside advertising – you’d use both if you have both kinds of problems.

Is it free to try?

Yes – 1,000 free API lookups with no credit card required, plus a live demo widget on the pricing page.
